Raleigh Park Elementary School

Our Story:

Raleigh Park Elementary is a community committed to developing compassionate, engaged global citizens. Together we are building a rigorous learning environment that values inquiry, equity, diversity, action and reflection. In addition to being a school that is culturally diverse, we are also diverse linguistically, geographically, ecologically, and generationally. In the spirit of Oregon’s Senate Bill 13, known as “Tribal History, Shared History”, we also recognize that from time immemorial the land upon which Raleigh Park sits today was once tended by the Tualatin Kalapuya and other native peoples. Deepening our understanding of perspectives that may be different than our own, and using that knowledge to improve our students’ learning outcomes is among the highest professional goals of Raleigh Park staff members.

Equity

Equity Area of focus:

Adopt practices and mindsets that help to reduce the over-representation of students from disadvantaged backgrounds within the "At Risk" and "Emergency" reading levels.

Equity Goal:

Goals: By the end of the 2022-23 school year, increase parent engagement rate to at least 50%. Also see “Academic Excellence Goal” to the right.

Key Strategies:

Improve our parent community's ability to connect with Raleigh Park schooling, events, and communication platforms.
Improve our students' and families' experience with our school from a customer service perspective, inclusive of classroom experience, interactions with front office, transportation experience, and meal service.
Seek ways to expand community outreach to the wide range of special school programs and offerings, such as Project Prelude, Readers Theatre, Missoula Children's Theatre, applications to BSD Options schools, and more.
On district staff-development work days, provide staff thoughtful professional development opportunities that deepen our understanding of Historically Responsive Literacy, Inquiry-Based Teaching practices, and practices rooted in Equity.

Academic Excellence

Academic excellence AREA OF FOCUS:

Explore and adopt multiple strategies in an effort to strengthen classroom literacy instruction (reading and writing workshop) and meet the needs of students across multiple achievement level tiers.

Academic excellence Goal:

Goal: By the end of the 2022-23 school year, staff will help every student achieve progress on their reading achievement levels. For students currently on track–a year of growth. For “at-risk” or “emergency” level students–more than one year of accelerated growth. Measurement tools: Our school district’s formative assessment tool for reading, state testing results, and classroom-based learning goals.

Key Strategies:

Once every two weeks for 30 minutes, staff will collaborate to analyze and monitor school data.
On district staff-development work days, provide staff thoughtful professional development opportunities that deepen our understanding of Historically Responsive Literacy, Inquiry-Based Teaching practices, and practices rooted in Equity.
Through the allocation of twice-monthly committee time and admin-teacher collaboration on an as-needed basis, support practices that enhance the learning experiences of all students, including those in school programs like ELL (English Language Learner), Special Education, Talented and Gifted, and others.
Leverage our district’s teacher evaluation requirements (observations, conferences, feedback, reflective questioning) to reinforce practices and mindsets that support our school-wide goals.

Collaboration

Collaboration AREA OF FOCUS:

Collaborate with/among staff on strategies that address the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. Extend the culture of collaboration across all stakeholders of our school community.

Goal: All school staff will build and increase our community's culture of collaboration: with teammates, specialists, support staff, administration, families (e.g. school events, ParentSquare, Parent Teacher Organization), central office (e.g. Nutrition Services, Transportation), and community partners (e.g. Raleigh Park After School Care Association, student activity sponsors) to improve learning and social/emotional outcomes for our students. Measurement tools: meeting agendas, meeting attendance, school event participation, interactions between school and district departments, platform usage data.
